Ever since I was a little girl obsessed with Barbie doll, I have looked forward to the day to study in America, a place full of Disney magic, with pretty and powerful Hollywood heroes walked down the streets. The idea of studying abroad from my parents who talked about it sometimes, but when I was finally on the plane, it was the decision I made, not them.

New life in America
Although my life before is in the other side of Pacific Ocean, I'm curious to the United States. At the very beginning, I had to overcome the language barrier. First speaking brokenly and reading at very late night in order to understand Shakespare. Then thinking and even dreaming in English.
Adaptive process
But as my English improved, I realized a new problem. The problem is my thought processes, experiences, and values were in foreign way. But I had to write and read it in English. Specifically in the class, everyone is allowed to question and ask teacher why…. ? I can’t follow the teacher and classmates’ discussion.
What is more, diversity, is the significance in shaping the country’s policy today. America is the only place where Accept and integrate of multinational culture. Therefore, I do not need to abandon my past experience and my passion to tradition, like celebration on Chinese New Year or Mid-autumn Festival, to blend into this place. My connection to my homeland is a big part of what makes me an individual with unique perspectives on this world.
As time goes by, I deeply understood America’s definition as “the land of opportunity”. There are so many choices here, most within my enough time to hard work. I have spared no effort to learn IB courses as well as enjoy my talent in photography. I was really happy to join yearbook classes for three years so far. From that class, I learned a lot and had so much fun.
